Description

Prepare for the impossible. Expect the unthinkable. From the Hugo and Locus Award-winning author John Scalzi, When the Moon Hits Your Eye is an entirely serious take on an entirely unserious subject.

One day, suddenly and without explanation, the moon turns into a ball of cheese.

All people on Earth - children and scientists, billionaires and workers, vicars and politicians - are forced to confront the strange new world they're living in. Over an entire lunar cycle, from a bright new moon to a brie-lient (and possibly final) solar eclipse, we follow multiple characters as they come to terms with this absurd change. The end could be nigh - and it stinks.

NASA's top scientists send rockets to investigate. But what on earth could have caused this unexpected change? And what will they find when they get there?

Praise for John Scalzi:

'Following in the footsteps of sci-fi greats like Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams . . . John Scalzi is truly a must-read no matter the subject' - Polygon

'Hugely enjoyable, intelligent and good-humoured fun' - The Guardian on The Kaiju Preservation Society

'SF's leading humourist' - SFX, five-star review for Starter Villain

Reviews
A light-hearted story with a likeable fish-out-of-water protagonist and a lot of very smart cats. There's also a dolphin labor dispute, some truly awful techbros, and a volcano island lair . . . Who could resist? -- Rebecca Roanhorse, author of Black Sun on Starter Villain
Laugh-out-loud funny, intricately plotted and big-hearted enough to touch even the grumpiest cynic, Starter Villain establishes Scalzi as SF's leading humourist -- SFX on Starter Villain
Prepare to be delighted and surprised -- The Daily Mail on Starter Villain
Satire aplenty . . . Charlie has to handle the lethal machinations of rival villains and also a pod of talking dolphins with militant trade union tendencies in a novel that gleefully skewers the vanity and inanity of a certain kind of plutocrat -- The Financial Times on Starter Villain
Subverts classic supervillain tropes with equal measures of tongue-in-cheek humor and common sense . . . The result is a breezy and highly entertaining genre send-up -- Publishers Weekly on Starter Villain
Fun, short and tightly plotted -- New Scientist on Starter Villain
Scalzi again examines tropes in a tale of an ordinary individual being cast into an extraordinary situation with his trademark quick pacing, clever banter, and ability to find humor in desperate situations -- Booklist, starred review on Starter Villain
Readers of humorous fantasy are sure to love Scalzi's latest . . . it's also for those who enjoy seeing superhero stories folded, twisted, and mutilated and anyone wishing for a righteous villain lair surrounded by intelligent sharks. Highly recommended -- Library Journal, starred review on Starter Villain

Absolutely Fantastic

This was my first time ordering from SciFier but it definitely won't be my last. When it comes to buying books online the packaging needs to be good, SciFier were great they used bubble wrap to make sure they arrived perfect. Amazing range of books that majority are lower priced than most book retailers. Wonderful service, I'll definitely be recommending to everyone. Thank you.
