Description

"Bright, nerdy and funny! Of course I loved it." Dara O BriainCan we resurrect dinosaurs, Jurassic Park-style? Are we living in The Matrix's digital simulation? Do aliens with acid blood exist somewhere in the universe? Will we ever go back and visit 1955? And just why were the original Planet of the Ape movies so terrible? In Science(ish), Rick Edwards and Dr Michael Brooks confront all the questions that your favourite movies provoke. Inspired by their award-winning podcast, this popular (hopefully) science (definitely) book dedicates each chapter to a different sci-fi classic, and wittily explores the fascinating issues that arise. Covering movies from 28 Days Later to Ex Machina, this is a joyous ride through astrophysics, neuroscience, psychology, botany, artificial intelligence, evolution, and plenty more subjects you've always wanted to grasp. Now's your chance: stylishly designed and illustrated throughout, Science(ish) is the perfect gift for every curious mind.

Rick has a Natural Sciences degree from Cambridge but only dimly recalls it.Dr Michael Brooks is an author, journalist, and consultant for New Scientist. Reviews
Bright, nerdy and funny! Of course I loved it. * Dara O' Briain, comedian and television presenter * Fascinating and hilarious. What a wonderful book. Rick and Michael take you on a whirlwind guide around the science you don't know and the movies that you do. You will feel cleverer after reading this. * Richard Osman, co-host of Pointless * If you are a geek, a film buff, curious or simply want to know whether you still get BO in space, this is the book you have got to have. * Kate Humble - BBC TV presenter and author of Humble by Nature * Deeply funny, academically accomplished, and unfalteringly engaging. Entertaining as it may be, it's difficult to escape the fact that Edwards and Brooks have just made the world of popular science much harder work for the rest of us. * Ben Miller - comedian and author of It's Not Rocket Science * Informative and captivating... Cult podcasters Michael Brooks and Rick Edwards lead a jolly romp through the borderlands of research, sci-fi and movies. * Roger Highfield - Director of External affairs at the Science Museum and former editor of the New Scientist * A terrific, engaging read that brings to life some of the fascinating science that lies behind the movies. * Johnjoe McFadden, Professor of Genetics, University of Surrey * As a series, it works beautifully...delivered with both enthusiasm and a reassuring dose of scepticism. * The Financial Times on the Science(ish) podcast *

This was my first time ordering from SciFier but it definitely won't be my last. When it comes to buying books online the packaging needs to be good, SciFier were great they used bubble wrap to make sure they arrived perfect. Amazing range of books that majority are lower priced than most book retailers. Wonderful service, I'll definitely be recommending to everyone. Thank you.
