About the Author
Mister Finch, is an exquisite craftsman and textile artist living in Yorkshire England. Aside from a single art class he took years ago, Mister Finch is entirely self-taught, having discovered his passion for sewing after dabbling in a number of different media. From ruffle-winged birds to glassy-eyed hares, Mister Finch is known and loved around the world for his enchanting, fairytale-inspired creatures. He works alone in his cozy, plant-filled studio, sewing each inimitable piece by hand, not far from the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. A freelance writer and photographer, Justine Hand writes about life, art and design on her blog, designskool.net. She is also a contributing editor for Remodelista.com and Gardenista.com, where she covers emerging talent and New England style. The mother of two imaginative, young children (who often assist her in her creative work), she and her family split their time between Newton, MA and Cape Cod. Justine Hand is a New England native and historic house buff. She writes the design blog 'Design Skool,' founded on the belief that "your home should reflect your story, your history, your heritage." Justine lives in Newton where she is working to restore her own historic home.
Reviews
"Sumptuously illustrated, Living in a Fairytale World offers the reader a gander inside the mythic world of Mister Finch. His creations are mostly `upcycled,' a curiously esoteric term meaning repurposed from oddments and junk shop finds...The book rather neatly divides into motifs and fixtures. Here be uncanny hares and foxes, meticulously brocaded songbirds and insects, troops of dysmorphic mushrooms - all the shadowy imaginings of childhood dreams. The effect is mesmerising and faintly unsettling," Neil Mudd at Culture Vulture
