Description

Welcome to Hereville, home of wisecracking, adventure-loving, sword-wielding Orthodox Jewish heroine Mirka. A delightful mix of fantasy, adventure, cultural traditions and pre-teen commotion, this fun, quirky graphic novel series has captivated 8-12 year olds with its exciting visuals and entertainingly unique heroine. In her third adventure, Mirka is still the only monster-fighting girl in town . . . except for a little new competition from Layele, her six-year-old sister, who is determined to get them both into trouble. Unluckily for babysitter Mirka, one very cranky magic fish who's had a run-in with Mirka's family before is determined to cause as much trouble as it can. No matter how hard Mirka fights this fish-out-of-water-even with the help of a not-so-helpful Troll-the fish just gets stronger. She's going to have to find a way to trick it into leaving her and her family alone before she gets in too deep!

About the Author
Barry Deutsch was nominated for an Eisner and the Harvey and Ignatz Awards for Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword, which won the Sydney J. Taylor Award. He attended the School of Visual Arts in New York and Portland State University, where he won the national Charles M. Schultz award for best college cartoonist. He was also nominated for the 2008 Russ Manning Award for Promising Newcomer.

Reviews
Deutsch has created a wonderfully inventive world, in which fantastic creatures believably reside alongside a religious community; Mirka is a delightfully flawed heroine that nearly anyone can relate to and enjoy. Backgrounder Wallace and colorist Richmond augment Deutsch's busy panels, providing a pleasingly earth-toned setting for Mirka's latest adventure. This consistently clever and thoughtful series hasn't lost a particle of momentum. * Kirkus *
**STARRED REVIEW** "Though the expressive and often humorous illustrations in this graphic novel do much to convey each scene's tone and highlight important characters and objects, words make the world go 'round here. (Check out Mirka's punctuation-marked skirt!)" * The Horn Book *

Awards
Commended for Sydney Taylor Book Award (Older Readers) 2016.

Absolutely Fantastic

This was my first time ordering from SciFier but it definitely won't be my last. When it comes to buying books online the packaging needs to be good, SciFier were great they used bubble wrap to make sure they arrived perfect. Amazing range of books that majority are lower priced than most book retailers. Wonderful service, I'll definitely be recommending to everyone. Thank you.
