Description

'Disarrhoea' comprises six speculative fiction stories blending science fiction and fantasy with more than a hint of horror and a liberal infusion of macabre humour. In 'Disarrhoea' a father recounts ten days of events following the release of an unknown contaminant outside. Trapped at home with his two young children, whose mother has gone missing, the narrative documents the decline in the health and living conditions of the family, their neighbours and contacts. The host in 'Fearground' accompanies guests through their ordeal in the most extreme funfair in the universe. 'Terror Pericolosa' is a recorded transmission from the first landing party on Proxima Centauri b, relaying the experiences of the colonists' first three weeks on the planet to the few orbiting arks that have survived the multigenerational odyssey from a desolate Earth. 'The Matryoshka Loop' is best read without having any idea in advance of the story as it unfolds. 'Eat Thy Neighbour' is a dialogue set in a futuristic reality TV show spearheading a disturbing social revolution. A quirky vignette, 'Credit Where Credit's Due', rounds off the collection on a light-hearted note.

About the Author
Kevin Vodden was born and educated in England, spending eight years of his childhood in a small Hampshire village a few hundred yards from a house where, coincidentally, Jane Austen also lived for eight years. During this formative period, from the age of five to thirteen, he was greatly influenced by 'Doctor Who', 'Lost in Space', 'The Twilight Zone' and countless classic sci-fi movies. His fascination with the unknown was further fuelled during his teenage years by John Wyndham's 'The Chrysalids' and 'The Day of the Triffids', and H.G. Wells' 'The Time Machine' and 'The War of the Worlds', among many others of the speculative fiction genre - and he hasn't stopped wondering, 'What if ...?' ever since. So, on leaving school, he inevitably became ... a motorcycle salesman. After three years he progressed to working as a security guard, then an encyclopaedia salesman, a motorcycle despatch rider, a cashier, and eventually ended up teaching English, French and German in England and Germany for six years before migrating to Australia, where he wrote and published 'Frawd and Other Species of Thought' (2008), 'The Uncertain Past of Malachi Trendle' (2017), and 'Disarrhoea' (2022).

Reviews
'... these short stories are simply brilliant, and I would recommend them to any lover of horror, sci-fi or all things a bit weird!' ... 'Kevin Vodden has done a masterful job of encompassing the strange and wonderful.' (LoveReading) 'Vodden's anthology is an entertaining thrill ride for any fan of science fiction or horror, blending the two seamlessly.' (4 out of 4 stars. OnlineBookClub.org)
