Description

This is the time of the prophecy. A dark fantasy that continues the search for the link to God inside the Amazon. DEVIL'S TEMPLE, is not a religious story. It is a dark tale of fate and legend, of feared words spoken in whispers of power and mystery. A Shaman's grim forewarnings tell a tale of a Temple that appears every five hundred years deep inside the jungle, and this is such a year! On the other side of the world, a civilian expedition becomes lost inside one of the most unforgiving places on earth, Amazonia. Does the truth lie within this remorseless rainforest? Suddenly, horror strikes when a scientist is killed in an act of human sacrifice. The death toll continues to rise, and nothing makes sense anymore as friendships stretch to breaking point and religious tensions begin to tighten. Who or what is killing them? Inside the Temple, a tapestry of death traps lay waiting. If these don't get them then horrific life-forms from another world surely will. Would anyone be found alive to rescue? An enormous creature bursts out from a turbulent storm above the rainforest, a thing born unto the wing high in the air featherless, huge and black and completely bare, it uttered an unearthly high-pitched scream that would make a man quake. DEATH was the beasts' name. In-flight, the creature opened to full wingspan wider than an aircraft, as it navigated over this new landmass with ease and where DEATH flew, death followed... Excerpt1: "What is going on up there Ale? Who is screaming!" Cesare asked with growing worry. Macabre events were unfolding and their eyes were glued to the distance. They could see small silhouettes crouching and everyone seemed to be holding their ears. Alessandro and Cesare began to see a small blue spherical energy ball appearing, and hovering in mid-air. The men guessed that everyone up there was in great danger, the orb splashed the darkness away from around it. The thing displayed raw power, swamping a deep luminous blanket of blue-violet colour over the Temple stone. Reeling backward involuntarily, both men staggered when a sharp light flashed powerfully through everyone's bodies on the steps! In that split-second flash, Alessandro and Cesare could see the people's transparent bodies and skeletons, silhouetted briefly in a weird blue light. Both men gasped loudly, when a massive expansion of pure energy happened, so sudden and so quick. They witnessed Beppi become engulfed. The power catapulted the helpless man into the air and held him up high like a blazing star, screaming. "Oh God! Look!" Cesare called out in grim abhorrence, nobody spared the grim details of the victim's flesh bubbling; Beppi's body wriggled and popped like a sausage on a barbeque. Paralysed, everyone watched helplessly, and nobody could save him. "It's Beppi! It's got Beppi! It's roasting him alive!" Yelling like a maniac, Alessandro's own sanity screamed out in disbelief.

GOD'S CHAIN is a dark fantasy that is told in a series of books. The story is an epic dark fantasy that starts quietly 300 years ago in a remote village in the west of Scotland, as told in GENESIS, the first book in GOD'S CHAIN. The story moves to the modern-day where the layers of deceit man will go to obtain ultimate power is slowly unraveled. The pace picks up with deaths at the Vatican Bank by those people who want this godly power of cosmic proportions for themselves. DEVILS'S TEMPLE is the next link and second book in the chain and is the sequel to GENESIS in GOD'S CHAIN. It is a dark tale of fate and legend, of feared words spoken in whispers of power and mystery. There is a hidden valley inside Amazonia known as the Vale of MalisIblis, where a mythical Temple appears every five hundred years. Professor Fabio Mancini, expedition leader believes it holds a large golden disk, a priceless artifact. Ancient tribes say that the holder of this powerful relic will have the ability to open a portal to the Gods! Horror strikes when a scientist is killed in an act of human sacrifice. Will anyone be found alive to rescue? DESTROYER OF WORLDS is the fourth book in this epic story and is the sequel to DEVIL'S TEMPLE. The story does not end here...

About the Author
Nikolaus Baker is my nom de plume, which is derived from my father's name, Nikolaus Hlibyczuk. Our surname is Ukrainian which is interpreted as bread maker or baker. My father arrived in the UK in 1947 after World War II, coming from Germany. Dad was only a very young man and had a few desperate choices to make to survive the war. There was no food in Germany, and due to starvation, he was forced to become a German soldier to live. A lucky man, dad eventually ended up a prisoner of war then driving army trucks for the American Gi's & provided security on trains. Dad was known as Michael. He worked in many different places in the UK & finished his career as head cook at Ballochmyle Hospital. My father married Cissi Thom, my mum. I love both my parents very much even though my childhood was very difficult with mum struggling with alcoholism. I had a problem with depression & confidence in the early 90s. Dad & mum have since passed on and I sadly miss them both. I owe everything to my dad. In total respect of him and his memory, as a writer I want our name to live on in my writing. So, Baker was a natural choice for my pen name. Mauchline is situated on the west coast of Scotland, Ayrshire, near Glasgow. A place steeped in history from the Covenanters & Freemasons to the poet Robert Burns who also lived in the village. I graduated with a BA degree in 1993 from the Open University. My first job was as a laboratory assistant at Auchinleck Academy in the 1970s gaining promotion as a lab technician, moving on to work at Stewarton High School & Irvine Royal Academy where I met a good friend Stuart whose hobby was with microcomputers. I loved my BBC Model B Microcomputer! I then became a computer technician at the College of Building & Printing, Glasgow in the 1980s where I met my wife Aileen. We have two sons & a daughter. My father-in-law was Provost George Calder Murray of Paisley Burgh in Scotland. George had the privilege of meeting, organising, and escorting HRM Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip for the Paisley 500 celebrations on 9th Aug 1988. I was a Karate enthusiast in the 70s and 80s, practicing in the Kisan in Ayr and Kilmarnock gaining 3rd Kyu with John Kerr in his own dojo (next to a dentist's - handy that!) I was diagnosed with cancer aged 43. It was a total shock & life-changing. I tried to run away from it and found that this is something I couldn't do. With nowhere to hide, I faced my battle. I am eternally indebted to all those who saved my life. I thank my doctors at the local health centre in Bourtreehill, Irvine, for their help & the surgeon in Ayr Hospital & the radiotherapy department, consultants & staff stationed at the Beatson. I have worked in I.T. both in the private & public sectors. I retired in 2018 after working in the largest college in Glasgow as I.T. Systems Administrator & Computer Network Engineer. My writing passion is challenging & also very therapeutic. I did this sitting early mornings freezing in winters writing GOD'S CHAIN at the bus station before going to work or at lunchtimes at the Glasgow Cenotaph over many summers. I wanted to write a dark fantasy with a difference called GOD'S CHAIN. It is not a religious story. GOD'S CHAIN is a classic tale of light against darkness, good against evil with a message. That by putting our religious and racial differences away, we can through universal brotherhood, courage, determination, hope, friendship, and love we can uplift ourselves spiritually against all adversity. Ultimately my aim is to entertain and tell an exciting story. I was lucky to retire early from college in 2018. I continue to write GOD'S CHAIN and take lessons in acting. My dream is to get a movie deal for GOD'S CHAIN and play some role in it. As I said, It's only a dream. :-)
