Description
Winner of a Scottish Children's Book Award
The Morton family are cursed: their house is haunted by eerie footsteps, a ghostly figure and whispers in the night.
Fiona and new neighbour Samuel investigate the hauntings and discover a deadly tale of betrayal and revenge, and a family secret long forgotten.
Trapped by snow and ice, can the friends escape the chill or will the Morton children be doomed to repeat the past forever?
About the Author
Alex Nye lives in Dunblane, and is a Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund at the University of Glasgow. She has held many residencies through the Scottish Book Trust, and is the author of several books for children and adults. Her children's novels Chill (which won a Scottish Children's Book Award in 2007) and its sequel Shiver were inspired by living in a remote cottage on Sheriffmuir. When she is not writing, she enjoys walking her dog, swimming and exploring the Scottish countryside.
Reviews
'In both tales, Nye's prose is chilling and sparse, and works well to build tension as the ghost stories emerge... These scary stories are a great addition to any middle-grade collection.'
-- School Library Journal
'It's a tense confection of mystery, historical intrigue and adventure for 8-12 year olds.'
-- Lindsey Fraser, Sunday Herald
