Description

Renowned author Eoin McLaughlin and award-nominated illustrator Rob Starling join forces to create a hilarious, not-so-spooky tale!

This book is NOT a bedtime story.

It's scary, strange and rather gory.

Bedtime stories make you sleepy.

This book won't. It's much too CREEPY.

Except it isn't... this book is told by a group of monsters who think they're very scary, but in fact they're not - they're cute and cuddly. They try their hardest to scare you - in a haunted house, creepy wood, ghostly ship and darkest dark, but each time they fail! The problem is, these monsters aren't at all spooky. They're a bit silly, actually. And a bit cuddly. In fact, they share the insecurities and worries of us humans and all they want is a cosy, snoozy good night's sleep.

Despite the title of this book it really is a bedtime story. A brilliant tale that reassures children, makes them laugh and gets them ready for a peaceful night's sleep.

About the Author

Eoin McLaughlin is the bestselling author of The Hug and its sequels, illustrated by Polly Dunbar. He is adept at wittering, okay at whittling and terrible at whistling. He wants to write stories that make children wet themselves with laughter. Eoin lives in London.

Rob Starling began doodling at school and hasn't stopped since. He lives and works in Norwich, and when he's not sketching up new characters or writing down stories he can be found sculpting, brewing coffee or foraging in the kitchen for cake. Oh, and teaching kids. He was shortlisted for The Waterstones Children's Book Prize in 2018 for his debut book, Fergal is Fuming.

Reviews

'Starling's block colour illustration adds to the frivolous tone in a tale where familiar bedtime fears are easily defused with good natured humour.'

* Children's Books Ireland *

'You need to go grab a copy of this book... it's so so good!'

* A Little But a Lot *

'With its brilliant concept, cast of adorable monsters, a wryly funny chorus of animals ... and big, bold illustrations that bring the story to visual life, this is the perfect book to reassure you own little monsters at bedtime!'

* Lancashire Evening Post *

'Robert Starling's mock scary scenes of the would-be terrifying beasties ... are hilarious; and there are some deliciously funny words spoken by bit part players ... it's most certainly one to share with youngsters. They'll relish it, as will adult readers aloud, and the former will more than likely demand immediate re-reads.'

* Red Reading Hub *

'This is a PERFECT bedtime story, banishing worries about scary monsters, laugh-out-loud funny and filled with gorgeous, bright illustrations.'

* It's All About Stories *

'This brightly coloured book is ... perfect to snuggle up to while settling in for a good night's sleep.'

* Creative Steps *

'Hilarious... perfect for those last minute chuckles before bed!'

* My Shelves Are Full blog *

'Striking artwork ... and simple rhymes are great fun to read together. A lovely book for bedtime or any time.'

* Children's Books Ireland, 'Books to Make Tings Better' *
