Description

WITH A NEW FOREWORD BY RICHARD AYOADE

The defining work of the great midcentury visionary of stage and screen -- rediscovered and republished by Faber & Faber.

This volume of Harauld Hughes's first three screenplays includes a preface by the author, as well as new critical appreciations by Richard Ayoade, Chloe Clifton-Wright and his current widow, Lady Virginia Lovilocke.

THE SWINGING MODELS
The film that started it all: Hughes's searing indictment of the bikini business's (literal) underbelly.

THE ESPECIALLY WAYWARD GIRL
A new student discovers her classmates have a thirst for human blood, which makes it hard to focus on the syllabus.

THE MODEL AND THE ROCKER
A dream collage of catwalks, crispy beats and crustaceans takes shape in this - one of Hughes's most confusing narratives.

The defining work of the great midcentury visionary of stage and screen -- rediscovered and republished by Faber & Faber.

About the Author

Harauld Hughes was born in Cardiff in 1931. In 1932, his mother sent him to London to fend for himself. He remained there until the outbreak of the Second World War, when he was evacuated to Suffolk, despite his offers to enlist. Hughes returned to London in 1945 and lived in the Elephant and Castle. His experiences as a teenage landlord informed much of his later work. He wrote his first play, Platform, in 1960, but it was his fourth play, Roost, written, unusually, before his third play, Roast, which made his reputation. He remains one of the UK's most garlanded playwrights. He was awarded the Euripides Prize for short-form drama and the Goethe Garter, and was one of the first writers-in-residence at Costa Coffee, albeit in an unofficial capacity.
He was married to the theologian and chef Lady Virginia Lovilocke.
He died in 2006.

Absolutely Fantastic

This was my first time ordering from SciFier but it definitely won't be my last. When it comes to buying books online the packaging needs to be good, SciFier were great they used bubble wrap to make sure they arrived perfect. Amazing range of books that majority are lower priced than most book retailers. Wonderful service, I'll definitely be recommending to everyone. Thank you.
