Description

Lieutenant Commander Shaila Jain has been given the assignment of her dreams: the first manned mission to Saturn. But there's competition and complication when she arrives aboard the survey ship, Armstrong. The Chinese are vying for control of the critical moon Titan, and the moon Enceladus may harbor secrets deep under its icy crust. Back on Earth, Project DAEDALUS now seeks to defend against other dimensional incursions, but there are other players interested in opening the door between worlds . . . and they're getting impatient.

For Thomas Weatherby, it's been nineteen years since he was second lieutenant aboard the HMS Daedalus. Now captain of the seventy-four-gun Fortitude, Weatherby helps destroy the French fleet at the Nile and must chase an escaped French ship from Egypt to Saturn, home of the enigmatic and increasingly unstable aliens who call themselves the Xan. Meanwhile, in Egypt, alchemist Andrew Finch has ingratiated himself with Napoleon's forces . . . and finds the true, horrible reason why the French invaded Egypt in the first place.

The thrilling follow-up to The Daedalus Incident, The Enceladus Crisis continues Martinez's Daedalus series with a combination of mystery, intrigue, and high adventure spanning two amazing dimensions.

Skyhorse Publishing, under our Night Shade and Talos imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of titles for readers interested in science fiction (space opera, time travel, hard SF, alien invasion, near-future dystopia), fantasy (grimdark, sword and sorcery, contemporary urban fantasy, steampunk, alternative history), and horror (zombies, vampires, and the occult and supernatural), and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller, a national bestseller, or a Hugo or Nebula award-winner, we are committed to publishing quality books from a diverse group of authors.

Reviews
"The sequel continues the first novel's mix of alchemy, intrigue, mystery, science fiction and high adventure into an entertaining package. Mike Martinez's The Enceladus Crisis avoids some of the pitfalls that many second novels face by trying some new things, and giving us some new facets of his interesting universe. . . . A follow up that manages to improve on the first in significant ways."
SF Signal

"A lot to love here, especially in the sections of the novel set in 1798, with their odd combination of historical fiction and pulp SF."
Stefan Raets, Tor.com

"Riveting . . . a uniquely imaginative science fantasy tale."
Publishers Weekly

"Martinez set a high bar for himself in his debut novel; could his sophomore effort live up to the expectations it established? It has and then some. His characters and their relationships are even more fully flushed out, his dialogue, description of action (I love the first battle scene) and overall handling of the narrative is, if anything, tighter and better."
Joe's Geek Fest

"This is a smart, well-written and outstanding series; no sophomore slump here, Book Two is even more exciting than the first one."
The Qwillery

"This isn't steampunk, okay? This is something new and unique and completely entertaining. Hard science fiction in one corner and Alchemy in the other. And the best part is when the worlds and characters come together (in both books) . . . you're in for a wild ride."
