About the Author
Hazel Cushion founded Accent Press, an independent publishing company in 2003 after completing an MA in Creative Writing. It quickly developed a reputation for its eclectic mix of fiction and non-fiction titles and discovering unpublished authors. The company received several industry acknowledgements, including the Pandora Award from Women in Publishing and a shortlist nomination for the Independent Publisher of the Year..
Hazel has long championed adult literacy and was an active supporter of the Quick Reads initiative - a cause close to her heart, having navigated her own education while living with undiagnosed dyslexia. Her business success was honoured in 2007 with an invitation to Buckingham Palace, where she had the privilege of meeting Her Majesty the Queen.
After selling Accent Press in 2019, Hazel launched Rushford Ltd to represent and manage Jodi Taylor, Accent's bestselling author of The Chronicles of St Mary's series. Alongside her publishing work, Hazel occasionally speaks about her career and experiences, offering encouragement and advice to others starting out in the creative industries. She writes on a range of subjects on her blog www.eclecticdyslexic.com/
