About the Author
Joan Aiken lived in a world of stories, and her greatest delight was sharing them. She was born in Rye, Sussex in 1924 and grew up in a family of writers: her parents were both writers, as was her stepfather. Joan left school during World War II and worked for the United Nations until her success allowed her to write full-time. During her lifetime, Joan published over ninety books for adults and children and became known as one of the world's favourite storytellers. She is best known for The Wolves of Willoughby Chase and the Arabel and Mortimer books.
