Description

Spid hopes to make lots of money having been gifted some magic seeds by his friend Marvin the mole. However, while he toils night and day to nurture the seeds, nothing goes to plan. An old man's forecast also rings in Spid's ears, and in the end, he learns a valuable lesson.

This fourteenth Spid the Spider adventure shares some characteristics with a famous and enduring English fairy tale. What sets this adventure apart is its unique blend of entertainment combined with a moral lesson for children aged 4-10 years. In the story, Spid stumbles on what he thinks is a quick way to make money, however, he learns that greed never does anyone any good, and that he should value his lot. Another highlight is its interactivity. The story features two songs. 'Money Doesn't Grow on Trees' and 'Seed Greed'. By scanning QR codes, readers can see and hear animated music videos of the songs: 'Money Doesn't Grow on Trees' combines a rock and roll and fast-paced jazz piano vibe. It's a fun singalong that will transport you back to the nineteen sixties. 'Seed Greed' is a reflective and thoughtful song. As it strums along it sends a strong message: "I'm afraid you are suffering from greed, trying to make money from seeds".
Spid is a hard-working, cool, and funny spider, who makes mistakes, but learns from them. As well as encouraging children to read and love books, Spid's adventures also teach valuable life lessons, including determination and what psychologists call a 'growth mindset' (desire to better oneself and succeed), the importance of friendship, and sustainability. About the Author
John Eaton lives and works in Taunton, Somerset. He is a highly creative poet and songwriter. He started writing Spid the Spider books in the middle of the lock-down as a means of staying sane, and staying connected with his granddaughter, Evaleigh. He has always had an affinity with the English language, and space and time, provided the opportunity to create. Some of the themes in Spid's books mirror John's own life. When he left school, he did not know, what if anything, he should be good at. Being one of eight children and growing up on a council estate he did not aspire to higher purpose. Through working in a psychiatric hospital, and then qualifying as a Mental Health Nurse (RMN) and then a Registered General Nurse (RGN) led him overseas, and eventually to establish a successful healthcare training business and care home in Somerset. His writing is inspired by the people, punishment, pathos, and humorous proclamations encountered in his day job.
