Description

Vital and vibrant, Banshee breathes new life into traditional Irish myths and legends through the voices of some of the best Irish contemporary women authors.

In curating the collection, Ailbhe Malone, a keen reader of every kind of mythological story, looked around to find a voice that celebrated her own heritage . . . Finding an inexplicable lack of Irish stories and, in particular, writing that explored the incredible emotional, physical strength - and vulnerability - of women, Ailbhe decided to approach our most formidable Irish writers across all sorts of genres to contribute stories inspired by the traditional roles of women in Irish mythology: mother, warrior or witch - and decisively disrupt our expectations of these familiar narratives.

With awe-inspiring contributors including Naoise Dolan, Megan Nolan, Jess Kidd, Wendy Erskine, Nikita Gill, and many more, Banshee is an expansive and seminal celebration of Irish heritage and of the remarkable women who shaped it.

About the Author
Ailbhe Malone is Senior Editor at The Strategist (The New York Magazine). She was previously Lifestyle Editor at BuzzFeed UK and was a founding member of the UK team. She has also worked for Nylon (US), the Guardian, Irish Times and Wired. Ailbhe has featured as an industry expert on BBC's The Apprentice and Digital Human, and in Phaidon's WHERE TO EAT PIZZA (2016). Educated at Trinity College Dublin, Ailbhe was selected by Paul Muldoon to take part in a poetry masterclass, aged 18. Aged 22, Ailbhe was runner-up for the RTE Francis McMahon Short Story Competition. She has written two non-fiction books, the second of which, 101 TINY CHANGES TO BRIGHTEN YOUR WORLD, was published in 2019.

Absolutely Fantastic

This was my first time ordering from SciFier but it definitely won't be my last. When it comes to buying books online the packaging needs to be good, SciFier were great they used bubble wrap to make sure they arrived perfect. Amazing range of books that majority are lower priced than most book retailers. Wonderful service, I'll definitely be recommending to everyone. Thank you.
