    The latest in the Fantagraphics Atlas Comics Library series contains a bumper 12 issues worth of material. Six issues each (complete runs) of Space Squadron/Space Worlds and Speed Carter, Spaceman from the early to mid 50s. The background material is engaging and thorough, but the stories themselves are some of the barmiest I have ever encountered in comics (and that's saying something!). Barmy, scientifically ludicrous, nonsensical and... great fun! Most of us buy these books for the art, however, and here we have a fine selection of Tuska, Roth and Sekowsky, among others. There's some very pleasing work from these Atlas mainstays, but the star of the volume is surely the great Joe Maneely. Some 25% of the stories are drawn by this comics genius and they alone are well worth the cost of the book.
